What is SA Divisions of General Practice Inc. (SADI)?

The support and coordination body for the fourteen
Divisions of General Practice in South Australia
A conduit and focal point for information between
Divisions and State and Federal Government
A non-government organisation managed by
GP representatives from the fourteen Divisions and professionally staffed
An advocate for Divisions in health policy and planning,
program development, implementation and evaluation

What does SADI do?

Provides support to Divisions in SA and coordination of
state-wide activities in areas such as immunisation, mental health,
asthma, injury prevention, quality use of medicines,
diabetes and cardiovascular health
Provides support to Divisions in SA for their role in
continuing medical education for GPs and in areas such as
accreditation, the Practice Incentives Program, amalgamation etc
Works to build the capacity of Divisions
Builds strategic partnerships, alliances and explores
collaborative models for improving health care
Builds a consultative framework to support Divisional GP representation
and input into health policy and planning
Provides a voice for Divisions and their member GPs at the State level and nationally
Monitors changes in the health system and works to ensure
these changes are to the benefit of Divisions, general practice
and the patients of general practitioners

SADI receives its core funding from the Divisions Program of the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing which funds similar state-based organisations in each state and territory as well as funding Divisions of General Practice throughout Australia. The Program aims to support GPs to work more effectively with each other and with other health care providers to improve health services and population health outcomes. There are 5 urban and 9 rural Divisions in South Australia.

Aspirations in strategic plan

SADI works to achieve its mission statement through four aspirations. These are:

Services - SADI is the peak organisation for the Divisional network in South Australia
Leadership - SADI is a leader in the development and implementation of initiatives by Divisions and General Practice
Partnership - SADI is recognised as a major player in the health system
Organisational Best Practice - SADI is an effective and efficient organisation

Activities and resources are allocated within these four areas,
as set out in the three year Strategic Plan, and annual Business Plan.

Background

SA Divisions of General Practice Inc. (SADI) was formed in February 1998
by its fourteen member Divisions of General Practice:

Barossa Division of General Practice

Limestone Coast Division of General Practice
Mid North Division of Rural Medicine
Murray Mallee Division of General Practice
Riverland Division of General Practice
Yorke Peninsula Division of General Practice.

Management Structure

The Board of Directors is made up of three rural Division GP nominees, three urban Division GP nominees, one non-GP Director and one senior Divisional Management Director with observers being one representative from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, one from the State Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Chief Executive Officer of SADI.

Office bearers are elected annually and consist of the Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer.

Two reference groups provide input to the Board: the Rural Divisions Group, comprising a GP nominee from each rural Division, and the Urban Divisions Group, comprising two representatives from each urban Division and including the urban GP nominees on the Board of Directors. Advisory Committees support work in Mental Health and Informatics.

SADI also has two Board members and its Chief Executive Officer on the jointly convened State/Commonwealth GP Forum which brings together representatives from all GP bodies in South Australia. SADI is a member of the national network of its interstate counterparts (the SBO Coalition)
